The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
Having seen the potential of faith-based organizations to effectively fight diseases of poverty including the impact of The United Methodist Church through Nothing but Nets, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recognized that The United Methodist Church would be effective with a wider effort to erradicate deaths from malaria.
Today The United Methodist Church is a trusted resource for health care in Africa where it provides support for over 300 health clinics and more than 5,800 health workers. In light of the effectiveness of our work, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation supported a grant gifted to The United Methodist Church by the United Nations Foundation to fund administrative costs of our West Ohio Conference Imagine No Malaria campaign.
The United Nations Foundation
The United Methodist Church is a founding partner for the Nothing But Nets with the United Nations Foundation. Through this partnership we have been able to send nearly a million of life saving bed nets to Africa. More recently, the Foundation gave the UMC a grant from the Gates Foundation to cover the expenses of Imagine No Malaria. As a result of this blessing, every dollar given to Imagine No Malaria goes directly to Africa.
The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
The Global Fund is the largest funding source of relief for malaria in Africa. Our partnership with them dramatically increases the access of United Methodist programs to funding sources. It has made Methodist Health boards in Africa eligible to apply for Global Fund grants. Through our partnership Global Fund participants have access to United Methodist hospitals and clinics that are often in very remote areas where other organizations and even governments have little presence. The United Methodist Church is the only faith-based organization with a voice and a seat at the table at the Global Fund. Interested in reading more see the 'Who We Are' brochure below.
